Core principle
Sharon does not track people across other companies' apps or websites, does not request ATT permission, and does not sell personal data.
Sharon never sends the text of your books or personal files to an AI service on its own. Cloud reading (Sharon OCR) is optional and runs only with your explicit consent, as described below.
Account and reading data
When you sign in, we may process email address, name, user ID, content you create such as notes and reviews, reading progress and activity, and a device-specific identifier used for sync, protection, and watermark state.
This data is linked to the account for app functionality, not advertising or tracking.
Personal EPUB and PDF files
Sharon keeps an app-local copy of a file you import so it can be read on device. This is not a backup service, and we do not claim ownership of the file.
Files you imported yourself may remain on the device until you remove them from the library. Connected account data and protected downloads follow the sign-out and deletion behavior disclosed in the app.
Cloud reading (Sharon OCR)
Cloud reading is an optional feature introduced in version 1.3. When you ask for a higher-accuracy reading of a page, the image of that page only, with the text your device already read from it — never the whole file — is sent to external AI processing providers to extract the text, after your in-app consent. Images are not used to train their models, and are not used for advertising or tracking.
Providers currently include Google (Gemini); deep readings may also use Anthropic (Claude), and degraded or hard-to-read pages may be processed by Datalab (Chandra). Each provider applies its own terms and policy, and this page is updated when providers change.
Public-source search
Search terms are sent to the selected public source to return results. Sharon does not store them in the Ninth Planet account or use them for tracking. The external source may apply its own policy.
Sign-in providers and infrastructure
You can use Apple, Google, Facebook, or email. Supabase provides authentication and shared Ninth Planet backend infrastructure. Each provider also applies its own terms and privacy policy.
Protection and Kerberos
Protected Ninth Planet books can use Kerberos, encryption, watermarking, and screenshot or copy restrictions. These controls protect content rights and do not transfer ownership of your personal files to us.
Retention and deletion
You can request identity deletion inside Sharon. Because the identity is shared, the request applies to connected Ninth Planet services. We remove eligible data and retain only records required by law or necessary to protect rights and settle obligations.
Sign in with Apple access can require manual revocation in Apple Account settings, as the app explains after deletion when needed.
Your rights and contact
For access, correction, deletion, or questions, email contact@9-pp.com from the address associated with the account. Never send passwords or authentication codes.
